Project: Highcross Shopping Centre
Category: Retail Mall
Location: Leicester UK
Architect: Foreign Office Architects
New Build: Completed 2008

The external lighting is inspired by Leicester’s textile industry past, with an illuminated mesh in two layers which creates a striking patterned cloth effect of shimmering and colour changing movement.

Within the building there is an interesting story from a lighting perspective of concealment and seamless integration of lighting including mounting trimless luminaires within a glass ceiling, cove details and the shadows from the façade allude to the industry of old.

Although the artificial light provides a crucial element to the building, this modern shopping mall makes best use of daylight and daylight sensing to control energy consumption.
